So I know this is later than some of you wanted… but jeez common. [quick aside: I know some of you were following some of the updates on facebook and twitter. Thanks to adamwc for mildly joking that it was possible to twitter through labor and delivery, I decided to try it. When you sync your twitter account to your cell phone, your Facebook, and your AIM everyone knows what is happening. So I guess twitter isn't dumb after all.]
How it went down:
- Cari went started having regular contractions around 4:00 am on Nov. 7
- We had a doctors appointment at 10:15 am and they said “dilated to 3.5, go to the hospital.”
- Went to Jamba Juice, Cari took a bath, and we got Lucy all set to go to a friends.
- Arrived at Kaiser Hayward around 1:00 pm
- Got admitted around 3:00 pm
- Was in labor for a very long time.
- Around 9:45 pm Cari got an epidural
- At 10:20 pm they broke her water and then she had a 3 minute contraction that slowed the baby’s heart beat to almost nothing
- She was rushed into the O.R. for an emergency C Section (scary), but the contraction stopped and the baby was fine.
- 11:15 pm back to the labor and delivery room
- 1:20 am she started to push
- 2:27 am Ethan Gregory Knapp was born 6 lbs. 3 oz.
- 3:00 am Ethan stopped breathing and tuned blue, but he was quickly grabbed rubbed and given an oxygen mask and almost instantly was crying and turning pink again. Freaky!
- 3:30 am declared just fine, beautiful, and healthy

Oh, how cute you are! What a beautiful family!
I love him. Now I’m plotting how soon I can get up there to hold him!!!
A beard already! He just needs glasses and a baseball cap and he’ll look just like you!
Beautiful family..can’t wait to meet him!
He really is an amazing little guy. Tries to hold his head up already!
I can’t believe he is our GREAT GRANDSON!!!Our grandson was (is) great, so I can just imagine how Ethan will turn out….with a lot of input from Cari of course.
We couldn’t be more proud of all of you.
Love, Gram & Bumpa
Thanks for the useful info. It’s so interesting
